Buy the truth and sell it not. Prov. 23:23
Dress For Respect

Fellow Christians, there is an atmosphere of casualness permeating many members of the Lord's church in this modern era.  And not that it doesn't reveal itself in the denominational and sectarian world too, it does.  But, remember, we are not to be followers of the world.  We are called to be separate.

I speak of the manner in which many are attending worship services dressed in casual or immodest attire.  We must come to the realization that our coming together in worship is not a casual thing. We are not coming to a picnic or a sporting event or the beach.  We are not going on a hike or shopping at the mall or to the movies.

Certain occupations require appropriate dress, and to show up in casual clothes such as is often seen of brethren in the Lord's church would be inviting a visit to the boss' office for a scolding and a warning.  If we were to stand before a judge we would be expected to wear our best.  How much more so when we are coming to worship our Creator? Shall we give God leftovers?  Shall we put no more thought into reverent attire than to going to the neighborhood coffee shop? No, He deserves and expects our very best.  He has always required the first and best in man's offerings to Him.  To do otherwise is to show a great disrespect.

Women, both young and old, need to re-evaluate their wardrobe for appropriateness.  It is not that immodesty should be allowed outside of the worship service, indeed it should not... but it is even more so that lady-like modesty should prevail where Christians meet.  Plunging necklines, skin-tight clothing, raised hemlines and such will cause men's eyes to see things and think things they should not, moreso when their minds are supposed to be on the Almighty God and things spiritual.

Likewise, men need to take the helm as leaders of their families to see to it that their wives and children dress appropriately, and also that they set a good example.  A father who shows up in shorts, a golf T or wrinkled shirt etc. is not showing his family that God is to be respected and revered.  And he certainly isn't showing headship if he cannot control the inappropriate dress of those in his household.

Let us come to our Lord with reverence and fear.  Let us give Him the first of our fruits, the best of our flock, to the best of our ability.

1 Timothy 2:9  In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

Romans 12:2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
