Buy the truth and sell it not. Prov. 23:23

The Last Day

His Appearing Will be Glorious
Titus 2:13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ;

Acts 1:11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

Mark 13:26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.

Every Eye Shall See Him
Revelation 1:7 Behold, he comes with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also who pierced him: and all tribes of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

Matthew 24:27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

The Resurrection of the Dead in Christ

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

All Christians abide in the hope of this passage. We are assured that those who have gone before us, if they have lived their lives faithfully to God, and we ourselves if we also live our lives righteously and are alive at the coming of the Lord on that Great Day shall be taken up to meet Jesus in the clouds. We need not worry that those who have already died may miss out on this great event. Indeed, they shall be taken up first! Then we who are alive on that day shall follow. No one will miss a thing.
2 Thessalonians 2:1-2 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

Here Paul is telling the Christians that they are not to listen to those who would be pretenders ("nor by letter as from us), who would try to tell them the Lord was coming very soon (the day...is at hand). Many then would try to claim for themselves to have a knowledge of coming events which the Lord has clearly stated none would, and the same is true today. We must realize that even though Jesus Himself is to be the Judge, He tells us that even He does not know the day or the hour - only the Father. Matthew 24:36 " But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only."

The Good and the Evil Shall Rise

John 5:28-29 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

The Judgment

Who Is The Judge:
John 5:22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:

Psalms 96:13 ...for he cometh to judge the earth: he shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with his truth.

Matthew 25:32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

2 Timothy 4:1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;

Who Will Be Judged?
Romans 14:10 ... for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.

What Will Be The Standard of Judgment?
John 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

We Shall Receive a New Heavenly Body
1 John 3:2 Beloved, now are we the children of God, and it does not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

1 Corinthians 15:35-44 But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come? You fool, that which you sow is not made alive, except it die: And that which you sow, you sow not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may by chance be wheat, or of some other grain: But God gives it a body as it has pleased him, and to every seed its own body. All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fish, and another of birds. There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differs from another star in glory. So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

1 Corinthians 15:51-53 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

Commentator Barnes says:
"There is a great variety of bodies. Look upon the heavens,
and see the splendour of the sun, the moon, and the
stars. And then look upon the earth, and see the bodies
there--the bodies of men, and brutes, and insects. You see
here two entire classes of bodies. You see how they
differ. Can it be deemed strange if there should be a
difference between our bodies when on earth and when in
heaven? Do we not, in fact, see a vast difference
between what strikes our eye here on earth and in the sky?
And why should we deem it strange that between bodies
adapted to live here and bodies adapted to live in heaven
there should be a difference, like that which is seen
between the objects which appear on earth and those which
appear in the sky?"
